Schools in Mission Hills

Mission Hills is home not only to architectural masterpieces, but to great schools as well. The San Diego Unified School District operates the public schools in the area. Mission Hills is also home to a number of private academic institutions dedicated to foster young minds. Here are some notable schools located within the neighborhood:

  • Francis W. Parker School – This private, non-denominational and co-educational school is the oldest and largest independent school in San Diego. Francis Parker has two campuses; the Lower School, which serves 430 students (Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5), is located in Mission Hill’s Randolph Street. The Linda Vista Campus, on the other hand, serves 800 students, from grades 6 to 12.
  • Grant K-8 School – One of the top K-8 schools in the district, Grant K-8 serves its students well by offering an outstanding curriculum designed to promote student achievement. The school has a number of enrichment programs where students can explore their interests, be it in music, arts, sports, or foreign languages.
  • St. Vincent De Paul School – Founded in 1940, this private Catholic institution serves kindergarteners to 8th graders. The school’s unique curriculum adheres to the Core Knowledge Sequence, the National Standards, California State Framework, and the San Diego Diocesan Curriculum. St. Vincent aims to provide students a rich learning experience centered on religious values, providing an avenue for spiritual growth.
  • Mission Hills Community Preschool (MHCP) – Founded in 1971, the preschool is an outreach ministry operated by the Mission Hills United Church of Christ. The preschool promises its students equal treatment and admits children regardless of ethnicity, religion, family structure, or ability. Through the preschool’s play environment, children are able to learn, understand, improve their social skills, and exercise their freedom of choice.

There are no public high schools in Mission Hills. San Diego High School and Point Loma High School serve the neighborhood’s high school students.
